What is The Ocean Cleanup
Every year, millions of tons of plastic enter the oceans, of which the majority spills out from rivers. The Ocean Cleanup is developing a passive cleanup method, which uses the natural oceanic forces to rapidly and cost-effectively clean up the plastic already in the oceans. With a full fleet of cleanup systems in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, Ocean Cleanup aims to clean up 50% of its plastic every five years.

The Challenge: broadcast the event live using NEP’s webcasting services
In order to keep al stakeholders updated on the developments of the Ocean Cleanup our client needed to organise an event that could be broadcasted live across the world. This particular event brought a number of challenges with it.
1) The port of Rotterdam for instance was a tricky location to host the event due to the dangerous machinery and safety regulations that needed to be upheld in order to protect the crew and the guests attending the event.
2) Time was also a big challenge for the Ocean Cleanup, October is one of the busiest months of the year for NEP and the event was scheduled very last minute. Regardless of these setbacks NEP and the Ocean Cleanup managed to map out the whole event from start to finish within our given time limitations.
3) Lastly since the event is broadcasted live NEP made sure to have redundancy backups in place. This ensures that if the connection with the broadcast is lost for whatever reason there is a backup in place that picks it back up without the viewers losing the video feed.
The Solution: multi-camera live registration and interactive webcast
A highly energetic event of 45 minutes. Worldwide live streamed from the port of Rotterdam.
The event started exactly at 20:00 on October 26th 2019, during the event our viewers were guided through the developments of the Ocean Cleanup and the reveal of the brand new Interceptor. The Interceptor is environmentally friendly and 100 percent solar-powered, with on board lithium-ion batteries that enable it to operate day and night without any noise or exhaust fumes. At the event there were 9 cameras, professional staff and at 40 meters the longest camera crane in Europe present. And all of this facilitated by NEP, including director and script accompaniment
The Result: Maximum exposure to important stakeholders and a perfect orchestrated live show
The professionalism and environmental objective of the Ocean Cleanup was perfectly illustrated by the professional team of NEP. During the event NEP took care of the video recording and broadcasting of the live event from start to finish. The event was recorded and broadcasted live to Facebook and YouTube by NEP on location. The Ocean Cleanup was able to tick off all the proposed goals and NEP has a great, innovative partner for the future.
The Ocean Cleanup about NEP / VIXY
“The first rehearsal for the live event was no more than a 3 on a scale to 10, after sitting down with the crew and coming up with some revisions we had another rehearsal which was closer to a 7. The final broadcast was a perfect 10 thanks to NEP’s professionalism and excellent crew.”
